2025/2026 Preliminary Operating Budget

The Quesnel Board of Education announced plans for a balanced budget for the 2025/26 fiscal year at the May 14 Regular Board meeting.  The Annual Budget Bylaw is set at $53,025,818.

Before the consideration of requests, the District anticipates an operating deficit of $188,741 for the 2025/26 school year. This was after the reversal of the one-time surplus expenditure plan implemented for the 2024/25 school year and budget adjustments for staffing and supply changes.

The Board solicited feedback and ideas from Partner Groups, Indigenous Education Council, the Quesnel District Teachers Association, CUPE 4990, and the Quesnel Principals and Vice Principals Association, on how best to invest dollars for the upcoming year. The Board of Education hosted a public meeting to understand the community’s priorities as well.  The following needs were identified by departments and stakeholder groups for the next school year:

  1. Recruitment and Retention - $24,400
  2. Inclusive Education - $307,000
  3. Transportation - $16,000
  4. Indigenous Education Staffing - $58,000

The investments above amount to $405,400 and will be covered through the accumulated operating surplus funds.  The Board is committed to continued review of requests as our enrollment picture becomes more clear.

The Board of Education is pleased to be making investments to benefit the students and staff of the Quesnel School District for the 2025/26 school year.
